Mexico is a prominent player in the regional glass production market. Large companies in the flat glass sector, such as Millet and Vitro, export substantial quantities of glass to the United States annually. According to INEGI, Mexico boasts around 94 glass plants operating at a capacity of 95 per cent, underscoring the country’s robust production capabilities.
The aluminum industry in Mexico is experiencing significant growth, influenced by the trade war between China and the United States, as well as Mexico’s advantageous geographic location next to its primary trading partner and the world’s largest consumer market.
Notably, California and Texas rank as the fifth and ninth border locations with the highest levels of aluminum consumption worldwide, respectively.
In Mexico, over 12,000 economic units are dedicated to the transformation and commercialization of aluminum, generating more than 200,000 direct jobs and over one million indirect jobs.
The industry produces 2.5 million tons of aluminum annually, valued at USD18 billion, for domestic consumption and export to the United States.
