The Façade & Fenestration industry in India is evolving promptly and the need for sustainability, comfort and aesthetics continues to drive innovation in the Windows, Doors and Facade construction sector. World Of Fenestration united architects, fabricators, developers, policy makers, consultants, engineers, procurement managers and stakeholders from the Indian industry & beyond to make a blockbuster debut in Mumbai. The excitement and anticipation undeniably knew no bounds when the most valued conference commenced with the inaugural speech by Dr. P C Jain and Shri Prabhat S Rahagdale – Directorate of Maharashtra Fire Services & Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade. Talking about the initiative Dr. PC Jain said, “I’m delighted that ET ACETECH has now moved from inside the building to outside, and taking a lead in talking about sustainable architecture covering the façade of the building. The event was graced by Ar. Kamal Malik as the key note speaker who shared his views on the topic “Fenestrations and Facades as Integral to the Whole” where he spoke about what the true Indian architecture is in harmony with the nature. Commenting on his experience he said, “I was fortunate to be the key note speaker of the event. It is a great platform to exchange and impart ideas and share experiences”. With esteemed partners like Aluplast – The Knowledge Partner, Encraft India – Exclusive Fenestration UPVC Partner, Lingel Windows & Doors – Exclusive Windows Partner, Lesso Buildtech – Associate Partner, Saint Gobain – Exclusive Glass Partner, AluK- Exclusive Aluminium Partner, 3A Composites – Alucobond, Eurobond, Glasswall Systems & various others, World of Fenestration 2016 garnered tremendous support of the industry in its first edition. Exhibitors included McCoy Architectural, Ajit India, Aluplex, Ritika Woods, Alstone, Ozone Hardware, KME India, Diamond Metal Screens, Art n Glass, Lesso Buildtech, Encraft, Lingel Windows, Aluplast and many more in the Exclusive Façade & Fenestration Pavilion. Panel discussions on key topics begun with a session that revolved caround New Technologies where Glocalization- Think Global, Act Local was deliberated on. Gautam Bhasin, Inhabit LLP presented his thoughts on Futuristic Facades. Highlighting the session were panelists, including Ar. Salil Ranadive, SR+A Architects; Ashish Jauhri, DSP Design; Amar Tendulkar, Omkar Realtors & Developers, among others. Nitin Bhatia of Facet Façade Consultancy moderated the session with experience and skill. “The World of Fenestration is a good endeavor and the country certainly needs more of these sessions and it’s good that business units has taken the interest in the evolution of fenestration industry”, he added. The event proceeded with the second session on Safety, Security & Facility Management in which PV Somasundaram, Alucobond addressed the event with his informative presentation on Art of ACP Façade. The session was moderated under the guidance of Aneesh Kadyan, CBRE with some biggest names in the industry including Ashish Kumar, Colliers International; Sailesh Mahimtura, Mahimtura Consultants, Jimmy Mistry, Della Group as panelists. “The World of Fenestration is a professional body which enhances any kind of technicality within the fraternity which otherwise you do not get a chance in India to discuss, debate and learn.” said Jimmy Mistry of Della Group. Keeping in mind the need of sustainability and modern technology, the event showcased a session revolving around energy efficiency and sustainability.

The session witnessed a presentation on Window Energy Rating by Robert Hoellrigl, Encraft which was truly edifying and intellectual. The session was moderated by V Suresh HIRCO Project Companies. The session ended with the panel discussion with inputs made by respected Atul Date, Rustomjee Group; Ar. Sandeep Shikre, SSA Architects; Mario Schmidt, Lingel Windows & Doors Technologies; Manoj Dalaya, Kishimoto, Gordon Dalaya PC, USA. Ar. Sandeep Shikre commented saying, “It’s a great initiative as it’s an awareness building session which was very well received by the fraternity and this subject is very important for the building industry”. Last but not the least a session on Knowledge & Skill Building of Fenestration industry was held under the moderation of R. Subramanian, Saint-Gobain Glass India focusing on the Designing, Planning & Execution and Role of regulations in the fenestration industry. The panel was dignified with the presence of Selvam R, Geotrix Building Envelope; Arun Sharma, Aluplast; Kamlesh Chaudhari, Glasswall Systems; Mili Majumdar, GBCI and Yatin Pandya, FOOTPRINTS E.A.R.T.H. Yatin Pandya said, “Fenestration plays an important role in making the space habitable – in terms of culture, environment and aesthetics and I am happy to be a part of the debate sessions that was offered to different type of stakeholders that included designers, manufacturers, practitioners to authorities who create norms. Today I was very happy to personally learn from the technicalities of some of the newly introduced systems of fenestrations”. All the sessions were highly interactive with a healthy Q & A among the audience and the panelists. The first edition of the World of Fenestration ended on a positive note with the next edition set to be held in New Delhi, along with the ACETECH exhibition in 2017.
