The 3rd edition of glasspro INDIA, held from October 10- 12, 2019, at the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, showcased some of the latest and finest trends and innovations in the flat and processed glass products and application segment.
The three-day event, organised by Messe Düsseldorf India and Glass Bulletin, brought together experts, professionals and technocrats related to flat glass industry. It was attended by stalwarts and top professionals of the flat glass industry and fostered exchange of views on trends and developments. Over 90 exhibiting companies from 14 countries displayed their products and services in this mega fair. glasspro India 2019 was inaugurated on October 10 in the presence of a host of dignitaries and the top names of the glass industry. The inauguration ceremony began with the felicitation of dignitaries, which included R K Mittal (president, AIGMF), Sanjay Somani (ex-president, AIGMF), Gyan Madani (chairman, BAI Mumbai chapter), Gesine Bergmann (VDMA), Dave Fordham (publisher, Glass Worldwide) and Lakhan Singh (editor/publisher, Glass Bulletin). Following the traditional lamp lighting, Birgit Horn (Director, Occupational Safety & Health and Glass Technologies, Messe Dusseldorf GmbH) and Thomas Schlitt (Managing Director, Messe Dusseldorf India Pvt. Ltd.) gave their welcome addresses, which was followed by a short speech by R K Mittal and a vote of thanks by Lakhan Singh. glasspro 2019 stood out as a hugely celebrated and successful event. The figures of the current edition far surpassed those of last year. There was a marked increase in the number of exhibitors, visitors and international participants. While the total number of exhibitors stood at 96, the number of Chinese exhibitors in the event was over 30. The total number of visitors this year was over 5,547, a stark improvement from last year. While there was an overall increase in the number of exhibitors, the growing interest of companies from China was prevalent. Chinese companies, both as exhibitors and visitors, showed up in large numbers. There was special arrangement of food for guests from China this time at glasspro as a gesture to make them feel at home and comfortable.
Keeping in mind the stark difference in our culinary habits with China and the difficulty the executives face because of the language barrier, the organisers had made it a point to arrange food for them. This saved the time they would have otherwise wasted in arranging for it themselves and at the same time, made them feel welcome and at home. What set glasspro apart from the host of other exhibitions taking place in the country right now is the increased presence of serious buyers and business enquiries. This meant serious discussions and interactions across the floor and more business for exhibitors. Held concurrently with glasspro was the 6th edition of the biennial event glasspex India. It is an international exhibition for glass production technologies and processes. This was organized by Messe Düsseldorf India with the support of the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF). The exhibition attracted exhibitors from glass production and processing technology, glass processing and finishing, glass products and applications, measurement and control engineering among others. Exhibitors from 14 different countries participated in glasspro this year. The total area covered was over 8,000 square metres and the total number of exhibiting companies, including glasspex, was 192. Also held alongside glasspro was the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation’s (AIGMF) 13th international conference on the theme ‘Glass Industry 4.0’. This also saw the release of special issues of KANCH and Glass News. The two-day conference saw discussions and question-answer sessions on a wide range of topics from Glass aiding Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to automatic lines for chemical strengthening of glass and aesthetics and functionality through glass. The conference saw opening remarks by R K Mittal, Thomas Schlitt and Birgit Horn. The key highlight of glasspro was the 4th Glass Bulletin Awards organized by Glass Bulletin, held on the second day of the exhibition i.e. October 11, 2019. The ceremony recognized and celebrated the talents of the glass professionals towards their outstanding contribution in the field of glass manufacturing, processing technology, product enhancement, entrepreneurship and business leadership. Standing tall in its third edition, glasspro India has become a brand in itself now. The event of international standards is the leading exhibition in the country and has been accepted in the industry as the event of the future.
The growth of the exhibition in popularity and clientele lays ample proof to that. The event was supported by trusted names of the industry such as All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF), Builders Association of India (BAI), The Madras Glass & Plywood Merchants Association, Chhattisgarh Glass Association, Ludhiana Glass Dealers Association, Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS), Rajkot Glass Merchant Association (RGMA), Glazing Society of India and the Noida Glass traders welfare association. The joint venture of Messe and GB has turned out to be a huge success, both players being experts in their own respective fields. The successful association bore fruit in the form of the two exhibitions put together and points to an even brighter future together.
