Also Cugher, through the partnership with Bottero with which it shares the innovative approach in the development of cutting-edge glass processing technologies, is a part of a record history in the solar sector.

In 2011, when 3Sun Gigafactory was inaugurated in Catania (Sicily-IT), with 240.000 square meters, it was already the biggest Italian plant for the production of solar panels and one of the largest in Europe able to produce 160 MW. Initially built with an equal joint venture between Enel green Power, Sharp and STMicroelectronics, then Enel in 2015 – the main Italian operator in energy services – bought shareholdings of the other partners, becoming the only shareholder of a factory which in that year gets to 5 million panels produced.
The plant, in 2018, became the most automated photovoltaic factory in the world, able to operate in a continuous cycle, 24/24 for 365 days a year.

In 2022 the TANGO project was born from the financial agreement between Enel Green Power and the European Commission and it will include the plant extension no later than 2024 with 10-fold increase in production capacity to reach 13 GW per year. A real record factory for double-sided photovoltaic modules production at high performances, which construction site was officially opened the 6th of February.

The TANGO project is a goal for the Italian technological role and fosters the renewable energies; indeed it will allow the production of 5,5 TWh of electricity, avoiding the production of 25 million tons of CO2.

The photovoltaic sector represented the 60% of global growth of renewable energy in 2022 and, taking into consideration the continuous trend towards renewable energy sources, Cugher wants to contribute to this transaction as machinery provider for handling and screen printing to photovoltaic panels’ production companies. Conveyors, stackers, printing machines, corner conveyors for different formats and thicknesses are between the flagship products of the company which, thanks to the excellent synchronization and automation of all components, guarantees a high production and quality level, in line with the sector’s standard.
