GPD 2025: Seeing the invisible impact of glass

Uniting Global Minds To Explore Evolving Possibilities, Technologies, And Sustainable Impact Of Glass Innovation

GPD 2025 spotlights glass as a powerful yet often unseen force shaping sustainable design, innovation, and industry collaboration.

This year’s Glass Performance Days (GPD), titled “Glass – The In/Visible Impact,” highlights the clarity, transparency and sustainability of glass in our world today. It will be held from June 10-12 in Tampere, Finland. At this special event, innovation, knowledge and connections unite to drive the future of glass. For over 30 years, GPD brings together professionals from the entire glass industry value chain – from researchers to architects, glass processors, equipment manufacturers and end users – to learn from one another, network and drive new ideas into business opportunities.

“What makes GPD unique is the participants – and their ability to take innovations forward,” says Miika Äppelqvist, Chief Solutions and Operations Officer at Glaston. “GPD is a meeting place to discuss current challenges and overarching themes in the industry, such as sustainability, the business viability of thin glass and automation to address workforce changes.”

With its interdisciplinary approach, GPD offers something for everyone.

It provides an opportunity for addressing problems and finding solutions together. In the past, GPD has for example ignited the need for regulation of anisotropy. It has driven funding for innovative startups. And it has initiated business deals and co-development among academics, business leaders and entrepreneurs. “Often, it’s difficult to get a full picture of the glass industry with its complex supply chain and vast variety of products. Learning and networking with others helps open your eyes and gives you a broader perspective,” Äppelqvist says.

GPD 2025 will feature over 120 presentations split into dozen tracks highlighting the latest innovations. Participants will hear firsthand of the latest industry trends, research findings and renowned projects. Talks will address key topics shaping the glass industry today, including façade engineering, insulated glass units (IGUs) and window technologies, the diverse possibilities of tempering, laminating and smart glazing, along with sustainability and the circular economy.

At the 2025 Step Change event, startups and scaleups will present their disruptive ideas and innovations to the participants, offering new insights to add value to the glass industry. “We’re staying true to our mission of bringing the right people together to the right place to move the industry forward,” says Marko Mökkönen, Director of Sustainability at Glaston.

This year’s event has been scheduled for the middle of the week to better accommodate busy schedules. As a special addition to the program, Tuesday evening will feature inclusive sports activities to energize the audience and encourage well-being in a casual networking environment.
