Ritec Marine Services (RMS) are proud to have treated exterior glass on NCL’s latest cruise liner, Norwegian Viva. A specialist division of Ritec Services based in the Netherlands, RMS offers a unique service to renovate and protect marine glass with the award-winning ClearShield Eco-System®.
Prior to her maiden voyage earlier this month, the glass of course had to look absolutely pristine. So just like sister ship Norwegian Prima before her, RMS worked their magic with the ClearShield Eco-System® on Norwegian Viva as she was being built in Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard near Venice, Italy. This firstly involved the removal of all contaminants from the glass such as dirt, glues, protective films and paint using specialist renovation products. Next, Ritec ClearShield®, a ‘non-stick’, easy-clean glass surface treatment, was applied to seal and protect the surface, upgrading it to higher performance ClearShield Eco-Glass®.
Although ClearShield Eco-Glass® may be found in many applications such as architectural, shower enclosures and decorative glass, it is the marine environment where it really shines. It resists corrosion from the harsh marine conditions as well as pollution and weathering so there is significantly less contamination build-up on the surface. This means the glass looks like new for longer and passengers can enjoy unspoilt views from their cabins, reducing complaints.
The frequency of cleaning required to maintain ClearShield Eco-Glass® is reduced thanks to its ‘non-stick’ surface, as are the time and effort to do so. This results in less crew time and water resources being demanded for this task.
