The Ain Sokhna float plant in Egypt will see its capacity increased with the construction of a second flat glass production line. With its new solar farm, the site will meet part of its own needs in renewable energy and reduce its CO2 emissions.

INVESTMENTS IN EGYPT ON A ROLL
Located 120 kilometers from Cairo on the edge of the Red Sea and inaugurated in 2010, the Saint-Gobain Glass plant in Ain Sokhna is the main flat glass production site in the Middle East. It produces 230,000 tons of glass a year and supplies 30 countries. This strategic facility for the Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa Region is to be equipped with a second production line, thus increasing its production volume by 85%. Ain Sokhna will be able to meet growing demand on the local market while developing its export capacity.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony in March 2024 also saw the inauguration of Saint-Gobain’s first ever solar farm in Egypt. Built in 2023 on a 70,000 m2 site, the 7,500 photovoltaic panels will generate 10 MW of renewable energy. This will enable the Saint-Gobain Glass Ain Sokhna plant to reduce its CO2 emissions by approximately 5,000 tons a year.
