KCC Glass (CEO Mong-ik Jeong), a leading domestic comprehensive glass company, announced on the 4th that it completed the construction of its Indonesian subsidiary’s glass production plant, Batang Factory, on the 3rd (local time) and held a ceremony to light a fuse in its melting furnace.

The 460,000㎡ (approximately 140,000 pyeong) Batang plant of KCC Glass Indonesia, built in the Batang Industrial Complex in Central Java, Indonesia, is a super-large glass production plant with an annual production capacity of 440,000 tons of plate glass. With just daily production, it can produce up to 1,200 tons of plate glass, enough to cover the entire exterior wall of the 123-story Lotte World Tower. KCC Glass has been preparing the plant since the groundbreaking ceremony in May 2021, investing 300 billion won. This is the first time that a domestic glass production company has established a production base overseas.

The inauguration ceremony held at the Indonesian factory on this day was attended by approximately 200 people including KCC Glass Chairman Chung Mong-ik, Indonesian Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani, KCC Glass executives and employees, and Indonesian political and government officials.

KCC Glass plans to begin full-scale production of Indonesian flat glass starting at the end of this month, following the furnace heating period, starting with this inauguration ceremony.

With the completion of the Indonesian corporation’s base plant, KCC Glass has become a global glass company with an annual production capacity of 1.74 million tons of plate glass, combined with its existing domestic plant, Yeoju Plant.

Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country with a population of approximately 280 million, and is a central country in Southeast Asia that has maintained a high economic growth rate of over 5% for the past two consecutive years. In particular, it has excellent geographical conditions as a crossroads between the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and its young median age of 29.7 years is considered to have very high growth potential. Many domestic companies, including Hyundai Motor Company, LG, and POSCO, are increasing their local investments. Recently, the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan, Borneo, is being promoted, so construction demand is expected to increase significantly in the future.

KCC Glass is actively targeting the Indonesian glass market, which has high growth potential, with plate glass produced at its Indonesian subsidiary’s base plant, while also investing an additional 700 billion won in the future to develop the plant into a “comprehensive glass cluster” for targeting overseas markets such as ASEAN, Oceania, and the Middle East.

A KCC Glass official said, “The completion of the Indonesian corporation’s base plant has a special meaning in that it means that K-Glass has fully embarked on globalization,” and “With KCC Glass’ outstanding technological prowess accumulated over 40 years, we will make it the first overseas production base to introduce K-Glass to the world.”
