Permasteelisa Group bags façade contract for San Francisco Oceanwide Center

The Façade Will Contribute To Achieve The LEED Platinum Rating

The new twin-towers landmark in San Francisco will have more than 1 million sq ft (around 95,000 sq m) of façade cladding engineered and produced by the Permasteelisa Group. Designed by Foster + Partners, the project is scheduled for completion in 2021.

Permasteelisa Group has been awarded a major contract for the façades of the Oceanwide Center in downtown San Francisco. The overall duration of the project will be around 4 years, from the design phase, all the way to the production and final installation; it will be carried out by Permasteelisa North America and by Josef Gartner in Germany and USA, with support from the Italian headquarters as well as other companies of the Group. The new addition to San Francisco’s downtown is a mixed-used development located in the Transbay neighborhood. Designed by Foster + Partners, the new development by Oceanwide Holdings will comprise two high-rise towers and provide the city with 1 million square feet of office space, 265 luxury residential units and a 171-key luxury hotel. The taller tower, on First Street, will rise 910 ft (277 m) and is going to become the second tallest in the city of San Francisco. The 61-story building mixed-use residential and office tower will have a 730,000 sq ft (67,800 sq m) curtain wall which incorporates recessed, stainless steel diagrid cladding, floor-to-ceiling high performance glass, and a custom aluminum profile, for a total of 11,500 units. The façade will contribute to achieve the LEED Platinum rating for which the building has been designed. The second tower, on Mission Street, will rise 645 ft (197 m). This elegant 54-story mixed-use residential and hotel building will have 300,000 sq ft (approx. 28,000 sq m) of cladding by Josef Gartner, in a modern interpretation of the traditional bay window buildings.
